Summer 2026 wildfire recovery
This summer at Adventurous Christians has looked different than we planned.
On July 12, we were notified by the U.S. Forest Service that the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness would close due to wildfires. While our property in Grand Marais has remained safe, the closure – combined with ongoing air quality concerns – significantly disrupted our summer programming. We made the difficult decision to cancel several canoe trips, and some groups chose to step back out of caution.
These decisions were not made lightly. Each trip represents a meaningful opportunity for young people to encounter God in the wilderness, and we share in the disappointment felt by campers, leaders, and families.
In a short video below, our Program Director, Trisha, shares more about this season and the sadness of lost ministry opportunities.
In addition to the ministry impact, these cancellations have created an unexpected financial shortfall of approximately $35,000.
As the BWCAW begins to reopen and we move forward with the remainder of our summer trips, we are launching a Wildfire Recovery Campaign to help bridge this gap and sustain the ministry of Adventurous Christians during this challenging season.
If you feel called to support this effort, we invite you to give and partner with us as we continue creating space for life-changing experiences in God’s creation.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and faithful support. We will continue to post updates and progress here.
